2022 McCrea Chardonnay Sonoma Mountain

Notes

Green-tinged, pale yellow. Newly opened morning citrus flowers, pear skin, grapefruit flesh just next to the rind and a chalky nature to the aromatics which is so distinctly McCrea. Perfectly ripe stone fruits woven with mineral undertones lead to an approach that fills and then cleanses the palate. Luxurious, long and lasting finish. Delicious.

The 2022 Chardonnay McCrea Vineyard swans out of the glass with showy notes of ripe peaches, honeydew melon, and juicy pears followed by hints of Bosc pears, honeysuckle, and nutmeg. The medium to full-bodied palate bursts with bright, crunchy orchard fruit flavors and fantastic tension complemented by a silky texture and a long and savory finish.

Green tinge to the yellow color. It’s ripe, with tropical fruit, sliced mangoes, peaches and pineapple, yet there’s a green apple note as well. It’s full-bodied and dense, with a creamy texture and a long and sophisticated finish. It shows energy and balance. Savory at the end with hints of coconut. So delicious already. Drink or hold.

From the Athearn Estate, the ripe yellow-hued 2022 Chardonnay McCrea Vineyard is open knit and expressive already with notes of golden apples, honeyed citrus, and wet stones. Ripe and round, it has a savory element through the palate, with a delicate note of toasted spice. It will benefit from another 6 months in bottle, but this is showing well now and is going to have an open window for drinking over the next 6-8 years. 17,875 bottles were produced.
