2022 Durell Chardonnay
Notes
Pale yellow. Softly lifted aromas of ripe citrus, light floral tones and its classic marine base note underpinnings within a subtler framework given the nuanced nature of vintage. Leads with a forward, just ripe golden fruited body, with coiled intensity, spine and length. Finishes with a subtle yet firm persistence. It has much to offer now but will undoubtedly age on along an intriguing path.

The 2022 Chardonnay Durell Vineyard pops from the glass with vibrant notes of green mango, Granny Smith apples, and fresh pineapple leading to fragrant suggestions of honeycomb, yuzu zest, and jasmine tea. The medium to full-bodied palate shimmers with energetic tropical fruit and a racy backbone, delivering a creamy texture and a very long, chalky finish.

Candied lemons, pineapple rind and hints of toasted oak. Some minerals, pie crust and caramel. It’s full-bodied and lightly oily, yet tangy at the same time. Hints of peach skin. Some flintiness underneath. Intriguing wine. Drinkable now, but needs two or three years to develop. Better after 2026.

The 2022 Chardonnay Durell Vineyard is a ripe yellow color and starts to take on a bit more complexity, with delicate notes of flint, green apples, candied lemon, and melon. It offers a delicate feel on the palate, with a kiss of sweet pear fruit through the midpalate, and floats away with a long, graceful finish. This site typically produces one of the fleshier of the wines from Kistler, but this vintage isn’t heavy. It’s ripe and quite elegant. Drink 2024-2030. 6375 bottles were produced.
