2022 Laguna Ridge Chardonnay Russian River Valley

Notes

Green tinged pale yellow. Bold aromas of yellow citrus rind, toasted grains and hints of petrol and beeswax. Expressive, savory green to yellow orchard fruit flavors stand at the front, hiding poignant natural acids that define its well-structured and precisely balanced nature. Of depth, yet tightly wound with a piercing, sanguine and lasting finish.

The 2022 Chardonnay Laguna Ridge Vineyard is quite closed to start off, needing a lot of shaking to wake up notes of Marcona almonds, lemon butter, key lime pie, and orange blossom leading to a core of Golden Delicious apples and fresh green mango. The medium to full-bodied palate is tightly wound and refreshing, with many layers of citrus and tropical fruit and a long saline finish. This is bottled exclusively in magnum.

This is full-bodied with caramel, sliced apples, pineapple and honey, plus some tarte tatin. Full and intense, but then tightens at the end with a superb finish. Dancing on my palate at the end. Love it. Drink after 2027.

Only bottled in magnums, the 2022 Chardonnay Laguna Ridge Vineyard comes from just south of Trenton. It pours a golden yellow hue and delivers notes of white pepper, bright citrus zest, resinous, and white peach. Mouthwatering upfront, it’s medium-bodied and floats on the palate with great ease and finesse, with a savory side of toasted incense on the finish. This needs time, which is why Kistler decided to only produce the large format bottles, and it’s going to do well over the next 15 years. It has the lowest pH of any of their wines, but this delicious Chardonnay pulls it off with ease and never feels austere. 2925 bottles produced.
