2022 Hyde Chardonnay
Notes
Green-tinged pale yellow. Site-specific aromas of focused, ripe orchard fruit flesh, lightly roasted grains and its marine influence expressed by impressions of crushed oyster shells. Lifted and penetrating, weighted and expressive and yet light on its feet and taut. Offers a firm lengthy acid spine and a slightly oily texture behind its primary green fruited and mineral tones. Fascinating to taste next to the Hudson, noting not just their regional similarities but site informed differences.

The 2022 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard comes bounding out with exuberant notes of fresh Golden Delicious apples, apricots, and crunchy pears giving way to an undercurrent of wet pebbles, lime blossom, and coriander seed. The medium to full-bodied palate is tightly wound with apple and citrus flavors and great tension, leading to a very long zesty and satin-textured finish.

The 2022 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard is a heady, exotic wine. Viscous and oily in the glass, the 2022 retains gorgeous freshness to balance things out. Lemon confit, spice, butter, apple tart and apricot build with a bit of time in the glass. This is classic Hyde, tempered by the personality of a cool year.

Wow. This is really framed with fine phenolics that melt into the wine and give it such great tension and form. The flavors are full of ripe apples, honey, toasted oak and heather. Extremely long and racy. Such class. Drink after 2028, but already dreamy.

Bright yellow/straw-hued, the 2022 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard offers delicate notes of toasted spice as well as orange zest, flint, and golden apple. It offers fantastic levity and a haunting, weightless feel. It’s a beautiful wine that’s only going to improve if given time. Drink 2026-2036. 11,375 bottles were produced

After opening the 2022 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard, it opened dramatically over several days. Saline, nori, white pepper and lemon aromas slowly give way to orange peel, apricot, beeswax and floral perfume on the nose. The palate's silky texture and powerfully concentrated fruit are foiled by mouth watering acidity, and it has a vibrant, expressive finish. That pure, delicate expression is alluring, though it will be long-lived in the cellar. |
