2022 Hudson Chardonnay
Notes
Pale yellow. Pretty, high aromas of ripe green and barely ripe yellow orchard fruits with fresh herbs and a marine like salinity; an iodine tone. The distance between its top and bottom notes carries through to the fruit on the palate, coiled but wide. Large-scaled and amply weighted, yet supported by seamlessly integrated acids. A drawn-out lingering finish, imprinted with its Hudson sauvage character. Delicious.

Notes of honey-drizzled pears, fresh nectarines, and grapefruit oil leap from the glass of the 2022 Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard, plus hints of orange blossom, lime zest, and crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate is tightly coiled with vibrant citrus and stone fruit flavors, supported by a crisp backbone and silky texture, finishing very long and energetic.

The 2022 Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard is a very pretty, floral Chardonnay. I find it a touch closed today. White flowers, lemon peel, chalk, mint, dried herbs, sage and crushed rocks open with some reticence. This is one of the few Kistler 2022s that I would cellar for now. As always, the Hudson has a slightly reductive character.

Lots of dried and ripe apples with pineapple, lemon curd and pie crust undertones. It’s full-bodied and layered, with plenty of fruit and caramel and honey undertones. Tangy yet creamy textured. Flavorful at the end. Drinkable now, but better in a year or two.

A bright, youthful yellow hue with a tinge of green, the 2022 Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard is sunny with aromas of honey, golden apples, lemon curd, fresh yellow flowers, and a kiss of baking spice. It’s full-bodied but gains intensity on the back palate without feeling heavy and has a great close. Warming but not heavy, it can be enjoyed over the next 8-10 years. 13,188 bottles were produced.

The 2022 Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard is delicate and detailed. "Hudson can be big and powerful," winemaker Jason Kesner says. "This is a very different expression." It has a singular perfume of panna cotta, pear blossom, white pepper and cashew. The light-bodied palate is soft and silky with floral, spicy flavors. Its taut acidity gives it a shimmery feel, and it has a long, pure finish. |
