Notes
Green-tinged pale yellow. Bold aromas of just ripe Gravenstein apples, lime blossom, powdered rock, deep earthen undertones and roasted grains, toasted hazelnuts. Expressive and deeply concentrated though tightly wound given its low pH nature, it’s run through with an energetic verve, a tension. The bright green taut fruited physical nature of the wine is paired in profound ways with the novel sulfides we expect from Vine Hill. A compelling version.

The 2023 Chardonnay Vine Hill Vineyard comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant notes of juicy apricots, green guava, and lime blossoms, followed by nuances of chalk dust and coriander seed. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers a compelling Chablis-like steeliness with a racy line and silky texture, finishing on a lingering lemon/lime note.

Lime zest, minerals, chalk, lemon meringue and Anjour pear flavors mingle on a lush yet lifted texture. It has great depth and length, too. Made from mature vines on the winery property that are unirrigated. Drink now or hold.

Pouring a bright golden color, the 2023 Chardonnay Vine Hill Vineyard is savory with aromas of toasted earth and lemon pith. The palate is full and savory with beeswax and almond. From the last-picked fruit of the year, it has the texture and structure to age but played things close to the vest at this tasting.

The 2023 Chardonnay Vine Hill Vineyard is another super-appealing wine in this range. Orange blossom, apricot, chamomile, baked apple tart and a kiss of French oak all meld together. Resonant and open-knit, the 2023 will be impossible to resist on release. A late leafing on the southern side of the vineyard was a great call in helping the fruit make it over the finish line.

The medium-bodied palate is elegant and refined with intense, softly honeyed flavors and a luxe, silky texture. It’s balanced by vibrant acidity and has a long, latent finish. It will benefit from several years in the cellar.
