2023 Laguna Ridge Chardonnay Russian River Valley

Notes

Green tinged pale yellow. Striking yellow citrus rind, lemon Jolly Rancher, toasted grains, and hints of beeswax and even petrol fill the nose. Fully ripe savory green to yellow orchard fruit flavors, broad across the palate in their expression yet buttressed and cut through by natural acidity, with a piercing, sanguine and lasting finish. The substantive yet buoyed textural expression in this wine is our definition of weighted without being heavy.

Bottled only in magnum, the 2023 Chardonnay Laguna Ridge Vineyard skips out with bright, cheery notes of juicy lime, green mangos, grapefruit, and wet slate, plus a touch of lemon curd. Medium to full-bodied, the palate offers great tension and intensity with a seductively satiny texture and a long zesty finish.

So distinctive, fresh, minerally and acid-driven. A racy, vivid, linear wine that drives fast from the first whiff of flint and crisp fruit to the lingering finish. Lively citrus acidity backs green apple, poached pear, lemon zest and chalk flavors that expand as you sip. Only bottled in magnums and a great choice for extended aging due to its great balance and concentration. Best from 2030

A deeper golden yellow hue, the 2023 Chardonnay Laguna Ridge Vineyard is only made in magnums. With notes of chamomile, apples, white peach, lime candy, and orange blossom, It has both density and energy on the palate, with a rich, almost tannin-like chalky texture and a warming finish. Drink: 2025-2037.

The 2023 Chardonnay Laguna Ridge is superb. The magnum format certainly plays a role. Readers will find a vertical, explosive Chardonnay endowed with impressive energy. Crushed rocks, slate, salt and dried flowers lift a core of chiseled citrus fruit. This vibrant, nervy Chardonnay should start to flesh out nicely with a few years in bottle.
