2023 Dutton Ranch Chardonnay Russian River Valley

Notes

Green-tinged, pale yellow. Focused ripe aromas of Gravenstein apples, hints of herbs, freshly baked dough crust and all of the regional and site-specific soil born tones, earthen in their nature, fill the aromatic profile. Precise, penetrating, vibrant and well spined, a poignant expression of Chardonnay grown at its best in the sands of west Sonoma County.

The 2023 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch is a touch shy to start, needing some swirling to unlock notes of ripe Golden Delicious apples, juicy pears, and anise, with hints of wet slate and toasted almonds. The medium to full-bodied palate is super-bright and refreshing with a silky texture and restrained orchard fruit layers, finishing savory.

A brilliant, balanced and terrifically fresh white that's alive with tangy apricots and ripe peaches on a full body. Accents of toast, minerals, flint and almonds. Elegant, energized, appetizing and deep. Quite long and delicious in the finish. Drink now or hold.

The 2023 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch opens to savory beeswax and honeycomb, preserved green apple, white peach, and tarragon. The palate is pretty and well-defined, with clarity, focus, and a silky, clean texture, followed by a long-lasting finish with great mouthwatering freshness. A personal favorite in the range, drink it over the next 10-12 years. Drink 2025-2037.

The 2023 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch is a gorgeous, open-knit offering. The Dutton is one of the most approachable wines in this range. Soft contours wrap around a core of apricot, dried flowers, chamomile, spice, hazelnut and spice. Light tropical inflections and subtle mineral underpinnings extend the effortless, gracious finish. The 2023 is an especially fine Dutton Ranch. If I owned all the 2023s, the Dutton is the wine I would open first.
